My name is Walter. I am a graduate of Arizona State University at the West campus (ASU West) having earned my Bachelor of Arts in Education in Secondary Education specializing in Mathematics. At ASU West I earned a grade point average of 3.61, which qualified me for honors status of Magna Cum Laude.

In the course of my education, I have interned at various schools within the Phoenix, Arizona area including Melvin E. Sine Elementary School, Sunnyslope High School, and Glendale High School. My student teaching took place at Villa de Paz Elementary School in an 8th grade Mathematics classroom.

I really love mathematics. I knew that I wanted to be a teacher. In school, I was an above average student of mathematics and knew that I wanted to help others understand the wonder and excitement of mathematics. Mathematics is more than arithmetic; rather it is a dynamic and stimulating method of problem solving and decision-making. Mathematics requires logic and deductive reasoning in order to go beyond a numerical answer. The CBS show Numb3rs, I think, says it best, "We all use math every day. To predict weather…to tell time…to handle money. Math is more than formulas and equations. It’s logic; it’s rationality. It’s using your mind to solve the biggest mysteries we know."

I believe any student, regardless of need or affective filters, can and will succeed not only mathematics but in their entire scholastic career. My goal is to show the relevancy of mathematics beyond the classroom and into the real world. I will have accomplish something wonderful if students leave my class not with a love for mathematics, but an understanding that will let them succeed no matter what tangent affects their life.

I feel confident in my potential and ability to tutor Mathematics to middle and high school students. I would not only use real-world examples, but said examples that are of importance to my tutee, the student I am tutoring.
