I'm a professional musician living in the Orange County area. I teach at Mt. San Antonio College and am currently developing my own private studio. I have extensive teaching experience across a wide variety of ages and abilities. I'm an active performer (a flutist, not flautist - yes, there is a difference!) and I believe that my students should not only learn the basics of their instrument, but also how to be an educated listener and all-around musician. My performance degrees are from the University of Southern California and the University of North Texas. I look forward to meeting with you!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Ear Training

Ear training is an important part of the musician's education. Once you are able to sing back a melody or hear the individual notes in a chord it can open your mind to a lot of new sounds and possibilities. Can you play "Mary Had a Little Lamb" in 5 different keys?! It is important to challenge yourself, but have fun during that process. Imagine how free your playing will become when you are comfortable with the relationship between two different notes.

Flute

I've been playing the flute since I was in 5th grade. When my elementary band director demonstrated each of the instruments I was immediately taken by the flute and asked my parents if I could play it. I would not be the successful musician I am today without the proper training (flute lessons!) my parents provided me with at an early age and the hard work that I put into practicing. I think private lessons are really important no matter if you decide to choose music as a career or as a hobby. I love teaching and learning the individual personalities of each of my students. I have professional playing experience that ranges from solo recitals to ensembles of three or five players. I play regularly with a woodwind trio.
