I studied both neuroscience and music at a liberal arts college (graduating magna cum laude). I have a voracious appetite for learning and I enjoy fostering that same natural curiosity in the students that I tutor.

Because I have a love for learning and sharing interesting information, I frequently led study groups, both large and small for my classes in college - including English, psychology, and neuroscience. I often proofread students' papers to help students improve their grammar, clarity, and style (both MLA and APA).

I have been teaching piano, voice, and music theory since 2010, combining both serious study with room for creative expression. Generally, I have taught beginning to intermediate voice and piano and I have tutored up to 3rd semester theory (for college). The best kind of learning is when the teacher enables their student to become self-sufficient and to follow their own intuition.

Ballroom dance also has been a passion of mine since high school and I have co-taught classes and tutored individuals since 2006. Swing dance - including east coast, west coast, and lindy - is my specialty, but I also have experience in foxtrot, waltz, salsa, rumba, and tango. By focusing on the basic essence of the dance - the rhythm and the style - I try to inspire students to become both creative and proficient in their dancing.

I enjoy coming up with creative methods that help the student make their education their own. I always try to emphasize the wonder and beauty in the subject and work off of the student's inner motivation to discover it for themselves. If provided with the proper tools and presented with an intriguing challenge, I believe that students will become motivated and excel.

Chemistry

From personal experience, I know how daunting (and even boring) chemistry can seem at first, second, and even hundredth glance. Because I originally intended to study medicine, I took a year of chemistry, along with my courses in neuroscience, biology, and psychology. Both semesters I received an A, mostly due to my extremely creative ways of learning the material. Because chemistry is intensely interesting and logical, I try to demystify this enigma and show how it interacts our everyday lives.

Vocabulary

Do you have hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia? Maybe for good reason, these words, while superficially impressive, do not convey your command of the English language. I can help you become friends with your thesaurus, avoid ostentatious fluff, and even identify the meanings behind curious words. Psychology

My bachelors is in psychology - with an emphasis in neuroscience - and I am a member of the psychological honors society Psi Chi. I have taken classes and tutored classmates in general psychology, experimental psychology, cognitive psychology, neuroscience, and history and systems of psychology. I've also done several research projects and dabbled in Matlab and SPSS, so I could help with brainstorming and carrying out research.

Anatomy

Because I studied neuroscience in college, my specialty is the nervous system, including the eye, the CNS, and the PNS. However, I have an affinity for general anatomy and physiology, and I've taken courses in biology, chemistry, anatomy, and physiology.

I adored science as a kid and I was fascinated with astronomy, geology, biology, and zoology growing up. Once I went to college, I had the opportunity to study neuroscience, which covers biology, chemistry, psychology, among other sciences. I really enjoy sharing my love of science with kids and encouraging them to explore the world around them!

Ear Training

I have a solid academic base for helping students with ear training because I have taken classes in music theory and music pedagogy in college. I also have practical experience on a personal level and also as a teacher. Although some of my voice students have claimed that they were "tone-deaf," I have taught these beginning musicians how to identify and replicate pitch. I can also help you learn to identify intervals and how to replicate voice leading and harmony (through studying chords).
