All of Francine’s current tutoring subjects are listed at the left. You can read more about Francine’s qualifications in specific subjects below.

ADD/ADHD

I started working with kids with ADD/ADHD in 2008, utilizing Floortime Therapy. With kiddos with ADD/ADHD, I break concepts into discrete easy to learn steps. I give breaks when needed. Work on subjects in short chunks of time. Am extremely patient and use personal stories and fun activities as reward/break items. During tutoring time, I redirect to their work.

I have a BA in Psychology and a Masters in Human Behavior. I use skills learned throughout that education to help these kiddos succeed!

Aspergers

I am currently working to attain my Master of Arts degree in Human Behavior and to become a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. I have worked with kids on the Autism spectrum for the last six years.

In order to be diagnosed with Autism a child has to have delays in communication, social skills and play behavior. People with Aspergers do not have a communicative delay, but experience social delays and behavioral abnormalities.

I use positive reinforcement, a lot of patience and applied behavioral analysis when working with these kiddos.

Autism

I recently received my Masters in Human Behavior and have taken the courses required to become a Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst.

I have implemented DTT, PRT, Floortime, TEACCH, PECS, and ABA therapies to children diagnosed with Autism, ages 2-18 for the last five years. I have worked with children with Autism who also have visual processing disorders at Linda-Mood Bell and privately.

Dyslexia

I have experience designing lesson plans and coursework specifically for children with Dyslexia.

I was initially trained to worked with kiddos with Dyslexia and similar Learning Disabilities at Lindamood Bell.

I take an Orton-Gillingham based approach to dyslexia and use multi-sensory teaching. I am currently in the process of getting certified for the Barton Method.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am fun, patient, use a positive approach and break complex concepts down into easy to learn steps.

I have worked with students of various needs in the K-6th grade range for the past six years. I often am able to assess where a student's difficulty lies and target the underlying problems.

Phonics

I was trained at Lindamood Bell teaching reading with phonics and spelling with phonics.

I am also in the process of getting certified for the Barton Method.

I have taught several kids to read while tutoring and know a lot of cute tips and tricks to remember the rules.

Special Needs

I have worked with the special needs population for the last six years. I have training in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Discrete Trial Training(DTT), Pivotal Response Treatment (PRT), Floortime and Picture Exchange Communication Systems (PECS).

I have worked with kids age 2-18 in social skills groups and 1:1.

Study Skills

For study skills, I start out using a token economy and a schedule. The kiddo gets to choose the order of tasks to be done and guesses at how much time they will take. The token economy can lead to toys for a child or something big like a day at the beach for a teen.

Students are reinforced for correct guesses on time. AS time progresses, they take responsibility for writing their own schedule and my role becomes more supervisory. They are in charge of giving themselves breaks and it evolves into complete independence. Part of study skills is asking for help as well and realizing how much study time is required to remember.

I use my skills in Applied Behavior Analysis for study skills.

Approved Subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet certified in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
