My goal is to serve your goal. Do you want to pass the class, pass the CPA exam, know how to impress your boss at your new job?

QUALIFICATIONS:
Accounting:
I entered the accounting field over 8 years ago to help local businesses compete with corporations. I audited with a "Big 11" CPA firm and assisted the controller of a national corporation. Now, in my own CPA service, I teach accounting concepts and tools (in English and Spanish) to entrepreneurs.

The myth is that accounting is all numbers and math. The reality is that it's law and protocol, organization and presentation. Whether presenting to management or giving a seminar in Mexico, Kenya, or Modesto, California, I strive to make it easy for you (the audience) to understand and learn.

Drama and Public Speaking:
I've been a Performer, Director, Co-Director, Producer, Stage Manager, or Costumer for various amateur theater productions in various locations in California and Washington from 1978-2003.
I have held business and economic sections of water resource development seminars in Kenya, Ethiopia, and Mexico from 2001-2008.

Teaching Experience:
- Alliance Small Business Development Center, Modesto, CA, 2011-present
- Saturday Scholars, Tutor for 6th to 9th grade composition, San Angelo, TX, 1986-87

I use Algebra I concepts in my work as an accountant, as well as in past positions, such as electrical linework. At work, I use Excel a great deal in everyday applications.

Business

As a CPA, my professional interest is a wide range of business development services that include typical CPA services (preparing financial statements and taxes), as well as business consulting.

Career Development

In this current economic environment, job seekers are thrust into a highly competitive arena. From the inside and out, I have actively sought out resources in career development: career selection, job acquisition, and promotion. I've taken job skill classes, aptitude testing, worked alongside our county's TANF department, and worked in HR for 3 years. As a CPA, I can also offer insights into various industries.

Prealgebra

I use pre algebra concepts in my work as an accountant, as well as in my studies of water treatment and distribution. Pre algebra concepts are "marketable skills" for your child's career!

I can bring real life applications to help overcome the learning blocks that often boil down to "Is it worth my effort to learn math?" (a net gain question).

I believe I can deliver a "yes" as I show your child how to learn and understand in an engaging and dynamic environment.

Public Speaking

I have extensive experience in giving educational presentations to groups. Most often, I take on the challenge of turning "dry" topics, like accounting and business, into edu-tainment. This reflects the approach that drives the entire process of preparation and delivery: connect with the audience.
Examples of my presentations are below.
- "Accounting 101," "Business Essentials," (in English and Spanish)
- "How's Business at the End of the World?"
- "A Safari Tour of Economic Development in Ethiopia"

QuickBooks

I am currently a Quickbooks ProAdvisor.

Tax Preparation

As a CPA, I am certified in tax preparation. I have assisted the income tax division at a major national CPA firm and local CPA firm. I have also prepared and e-filed Sales and Use Taxes for 3 states, property taxes (researched and eliminated taxable property by $361,000), and back up for payroll taxes for a division of a national corporation for 3 years. Finally, I assist business owners comply with tax requirements and advise on penalty reduction requests.
