Algebra 1
Algebra 1 has fond memories for me. I enjoyed it in High School. I tutored other college students in it at MJC. Then I realized the dream of teaching junior high math. Our private school was advanced in math, teaching Pre-Algebra that covered most of what normally is Algebra 1. It's always a joy to see the light bulb go on when a student realizes how changing the x factor determines the outcome. Life requires all of us to use logic, and Algebra 1 surely could be called Logic 1. Let's conquer Algebra together!
Algebra 2
I like to solve problems and Math seems to be full of them. =) Algebra 2 is where some math students who have sailed through easier waters start to falter. This past year was a revisitation of all things Algebra 2 for me as I tutored an student through...matrices, rationalization of the denominator, plenty of quadratic equations, and messy polynomials.
Call me if you are getting bogged down. Remember, if you feel the need for a tutor, its highly likely that you will need 2 hours/week for this level of math.
Biology
Botany, Human Anatomy, Zoology, Cellular Biology, & Molecular Biology are some of the many sciences that start with basic Biology. What an important class to understand...the basics of life. Life above and below us; life inside and out and all around! Join me in learning to love the variety of nature and how it all works so amazingly well. I look forward to sharing my love of life with you.
Botany
I am qualified to teach botany because I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. I also completed a concentration of Botany. Most of my upper level biology courses were various Botany course. On a practical level, an independent study of corn genetics enhanced my senior year. Plant Genetics is truly an exciting field.
Elementary Math
Long division is often the Elementary Math dread of choice. Whether your challenge is that or something else, know that I will strive to teach your child the basics so that when they reach the upper grades, math will be much less of a struggle. I enjoy children - they are each unique. Figuring out their learning style goes a long way to finding success. I look forward to helping them conquer math!
Elementary Science
Is it the science project that has you gritting your teeth? Perhaps the weekly quiz isn't going so well. I enjoy making science real for their lives. Children are diverse, and finding their learning style is one key to them being successful. I look forward to helping them beat the science challenge they face.
Geometry
Geometry is both visual and abstract. It applies to many occupations: surveying, engineering, science, architecture, building trades, designing, navigating, the military. Even a seemingly simple job like weed control is based on the area of a field sprayed. Regardless of where you are in your math education pathway, if geometry gives you pain, then together we can turn the pain into gain. Gaining knowledge of the world around you and how to measure it.
My expertise in geometry is validated by the A I received in both geometry and it's older sister, trigonometry. They were indeed my favorite math classes! Teaching the principles that geometry is based upon gives me a clear understanding of it's importance.
Prealgebra
Does the word Pre-Algebra leave you jittery? make your eyes gloss over with x's and y's? Brush it off, cast your worries aside. Let me share my tips and tricks for making those variables, terms, and equations make sense! Graphing is my favorite subject covered in this class. Let's conquer it together
