My name is Elpidio E. My students call me Mr. Elpi or Mr. E. I have been teaching for more than 15 years - traditional and non-traditional - in all grade levels from elementary, high school, college, and adult levels. I am a teacher, mentor, and a model to all students for them to succeed in their education. I have my Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree and a teacher's credential. I love making a difference in the lives of the students. In addition to my professional job, I am a community volunteer, both for the city government and non-profit organizations. I also write for an online publication and a broadsheet weekly newspaper based in San Francisco circulating in the Bay Area, selected Southern and Central California areas, and 17 selected cities across the country.

Reading

I taught Reading for more than 10 years (secondary and college) and I worked with students to improve their reading skills and proficiency. I taught them techniques on how to exercise recalling information and identifying graphic information. Reading is also a dull subject so I motivated them on how to be engaged in their readings and the practical way to get a summary of what they read.

Writing

I taught English writing/essay writing in college (DeAnza College, San Jose State University, University of Phoenix, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, University of the Philippines) and high school North New Summit High School, New Learning Resources Online). In addition, I was a field reporter for seven years of an English daily newspaper and at present, I am the Associate Editor of an English weekly newspaper. I also write my column on said paper.

English

Writing is my forte. I am an accomplished writer and journalist. Proofreading

I have been doing proofreading jobs for more than 15 years as an editor, proof reader, and field reporter. Up to now, I proofread my articles, other's stories as a managing editor and editor, and also proofreads my column. I taught proofreading for more than 15 years in my jourmnalism, composition, essay writing, and English writing classes. Also, in my reports, I do a lot of proofreading to keep the reports as accurate as possible.

TOEFL

I was a Reading, Writing, ESL and TOEFL Instructor at De Anza College for 10 years. I worked with international students from Japan, Russia, and China and ESL students from Vietnam, who were enrolled in my laboratory class at De Anza.

Study Skills

I've taught for more than 15 years and have been working with students on how to study their lessons effectively. I have devised study skills which I can pass on to my students so they will succeed in their education. These skills are tested through the years and I really want to make as difference in the lives of the students.

Chess

I taught chess as a basic course before and I have an ELO rating of 1500 + with Chess.com. I have joined tournaments and most of the time I'm in boards 3 to 4.

Public Speaking

I was once a member of a debating society and I graduated from a 12-week leadership course with training on pubic speaking. I can be of help to the students needing coaching in public speaking. I am an outgoing leader and I'm a member of various organizations with leadership experience.
