University of California, Santa Cruz (Environmental Studie)
I graduated from UC Santa Cruz with a major in Environmental Studies and a minor in Education. For the past two years, I have worked as a private tutor for a local tutoring company. I've created customized lesson plans that fit the needs of my students in the areas of math (Elementary through Algebra), English (all levels), Spanish (all levels), Italian (all levels) and test prep (ISEE and HSPT). I've also had several experiences teaching in more formal settings. I devoted a year of service to Americorps as a school garden teacher. I designed and facilitated weekly life-based science lessons for over 50 students a week. During the summers, I have worked as a science instructor for first- through fifth-graders at a summer camp for the past two summers. I've also tutored students with severe ADD, and assisted with time management as well as staying on task. Most of my experiences have been with children ages 8-14, but I would definitely be open to working with younger and older individuals. I would like to become a teacher in the future, so I have taken the CBEST, and can offer some assistance in those subject areas. Please let me know if there is any other information I can provide for you. I graduated from UC Santa Cruz with a major in Environmental Studies and a minor in Education. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I took and passed the CBEST in July 2013. I received scores of 53, 60 and 47 in the reading, mathematics and writing sections respectively. I can provide electronic and hard copies of my verification of passing status. I graduated from UC Santa Cruz last December with a major in Environmental Studies and a minor in Education.
