I am a full time firefighter with the time and desire to help students in need of educational assistance. My education, life experiences, and raising two wonderful children have given me the experience needed to help students struggling with their education.
I was a substitute teacher for 2 years with our local school district for grades K-8. As my reputation grew throughout the school district, I was often requested by teachers to substitute for their classes because of the feedback they received from their students. I can assist your child with most subject matter offered at these grade levels.
As a professional firefighter, our department had us teach fire safety to students in our city's school district for grades 2, 4, and 6. I interacted well with the students and was often complemented by teachers about my approach and interaction with the students. Many times they would request me over others. We also regularly give station tours for children and young adults that involve teaching skills to get my point across about the department, its function, and what we do for the community.
Prior to becoming a firefighter I played professional basketball in Switzerland for four years. After learning the language of the country I was often asked to, and provided group lessons in the fundamentals of basketball to the children of the local fan base.
I have well over four years of upper level education with an AA degree in the Humanities and Fire Science. I had a full year of secondary education coursework at a University before leaving for Europe. My desire had been to become a Physical Education teacher.
I tutor with a calm, non stressful approach that gets and holds the students attention. If I feel I can't help the student I will be honest and say so, not charging the student for my time. Between my experience and helping my two children through school (one is now a firefighter/paramedic and the other owns her own business), I feel I am qualified to help your child. I look forward to letting me help you, to help your child.
