I will be attending George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences in the Fall of 2014!
I hold a BS in Biology and focus in Biochemistry from the College of William & Mary. Raised in the great Washington DC metropolitan area, I attended Marshall High School and graduated in 2007 with the IB diploma + honors. Currently, I work at a private practice in San Jose as a Medical Assistant full time. My hours may be limited, but I will do my best to accommodate you!
While in high school, I was a Biology and Spanish tutor for many of my peers in addition to my other EC commitments. In college, I tutored student athletes for two years in the subjects of Biology, Chemistry, intro Physics and Spanish. I am happy to say that all of my students passed their classes and maintained an above average GPA for student athletes. Aside from academics, soccer is a passion of mine that I love to share with everyone. I played high school varsity, NCSL Division 1, and Super Y league throughout my life. I was an assistant soccer coach for one year for the local house league--I enjoy working with kids, and bringing the best out of them!
Simply stated, I love my sports, studies, and helping those in need. I teach to see the lightbulb moments occur in others, much in the same way that it occurs to me! Thank you for taking the time to read all of this, and if I can be of service--send me a message!
I was a student athlete tutor at my undergrad, the College of William & Mary, in the life sciences subjects. I have tutored many students in biochemistry, advanced biochemistry, and neurochemistry. I also hold a minor in Biochemistry, in addition to my BS in Biology.
I hold a BS in Biology from the College of William & Mary. Completed courses include: biochemistry, immunology, microbiology, virology, evolutionary biology and molecular biology. I also have done research in the field of botany, and have tutored students in all fields related to biology.
I studied Botany for one semester, and Plant Evolution for one semester during college. Additionally, I was an assistant researcher for my Botany professor, and helped sequence the aminocyclopentane carboxylic acid oxidase (ACCO) gene in the plant species, Ephedra minuta. ACC plays an important role in the production of ethylene, which is a instrumental hormone in plant growth and communication.
I hold a BS in Biology from the College of William & Mary, of which requires at least 4 semesters of chemistry classes. Completed chemistry courses include Gen Chem I and II, Organic Chem I and II, and Biochemistry + Adv Biochemistry. I have also tutored student athletes in Chemistry, in addition to helping pre med students prepare for the MCAT Life Science and Physical Science sections.
I cooked in multiple restaurants in the DC metropolitan area for the past 2 years. My culinary background includes Italian cuisine, French cuisine, Peruvian cuisine, molecular gastronomy, and farm to table cooking. I was the lead cook at Seasonal Pantry, and helped develop the bar menu of A&D, in Washington, DC. My contributions have led to a 2.5 star rating by the Washington Post (Seasonal Pantry), 3 stars by the Washingtonian (Seasonal Pantry), along with article spreads in the New York Times, Southern Comfort, and Travel & Leisure (Seasonal Pantry).
I grew up with an innate passion for the sciences, given how inquisitive I am about everything. While my BS is in Biology, I have tutored elementary science to my youngest sibling and his classmates with great success. Patience and curiosity are the ingredients to successfully teaching elementary science--once he/she gets the concept, they come up with more questions to gain a deeper understanding. The questions never stop coming!
I took one semester of Molecular Genetics in college and passed the class with a B average. Additionally, I've worked with molecular genetics concepts in other classes such as Evolutionary Biology, Virology, Immunology, Parisitology and Microbiology. Considering the greater role that molecular genetics will play in the new version of the MCAT in 2015, I believe I can help students planning to take the MCAT in this subject.
I hold a BS in Biology with a focus in Biochemistry. I have taken both Microbiology lecture and Microbiology lab as part of the advanced biology lab requirement for my undergrad bio program. I hold an A average for both the class and the lab.
I have taken two semesters (including labs) of Organic Chemistry in college as requisites for the pre med track and mandatory classes for my biology degree. I passed both classes with a B+ GPA or higher, along with passing the included labs. Additional supplements to my organic chemistry package include neurochemistry, biochemistry, and advanced biochemistry/bioinorganic chemistry.
I have completed one year of undergraduate Physics. I have tutored student athletes in introductory Physics with success; all were above the class average percentile, with a subset being in the 95th or above percentile. I now specialize in tutoring physics + physical sciences for those preparing for the MCAT.
As a teenager, I was always interested in computer programming and began with Perl and Ruby. Although I became more involved with my physical and life sciences, I continued to program in Python when I had free time. I have one semester of Comp Sci completed, achieving an A in both lab and class. Nowadays, I program to keep my touch--most recently, I created simple programs in Python to review concepts on the MCAT (IE projectile motion problem generator, pH buffer input/output program).
I have played soccer starting at the age of 4. I played D1 National Capital Soccer League, Super Y league, high school varsity x 3 years, and club college x 1 year. Past team mates and coaching staff include: Bill Hamid, current goalkeeper of DC United; Bill Moravek, former assistant coach to the Jamaican national team.
I grew up in a Hispanic household, learning the language from my parents and family friends. I opted out of the language requirement for my undergrad thanks to my IB Spanish score in high school. I partake in multiple Spanish translations within hospital settings on a daily basis as part of my job.
Great tutor — If you're struggling with organic chemistry and you need someone who can explain the subject clear and concise Gabriel is a great person to hire as a tutor. He really was patient with explaining concepts and made sure before we moved on to the next topic that I grasped the material. He helped me understand concepts that I have been struggling with in a matter of minutes. It was great to see that h ...
