As a very balanced kind of tutor, I appreciate giving students the chance to flourish in their studies. I am highly adaptable in teaching style, which means getting a personalized lesson plan and course of study. I like to approach first time students with a conversation to learn about their learning styles. Every student moves at their own pace, and I believe it's crucial in my approach to acknowledge this fact. Learning is about more than rote memorization, and it's important for me to learn as much about the learning style of each student as we work together. I am particularly comfortable tutoring in English and beginning German.

My qualifications include a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Kansas where I maintained a 3.5 GPA. My experience tutoring my friends in high-school and college has also helped me find techniques to reach all styles of learners. Working at as a counselor at a German immersion camp and my experiences tutoring elementary age kids at 826LA have given me some very good insights in these areas (826LA is a non-profit offering that offers tutoring to at-risk kids, and offers training for the tutors.) The completion of the 826LA tutoring workshop was instrumental in helping me define my tutoring style. I am particularly passionate about creative writing and helping students find their voice.

For test prep, I scored a 30 on my ACT, and I scored particularly high on the science section (98th percentile, 32). For these tests, my success came from understanding the material more than memorization. I also excelled in test taking strategies that are helpful on all sections of the test. I believe that it's important to approach these tests with confidence, and helping students to approach their college entrance exams is one of the most important skills for test prep. Of equal importance is an understand of the type of material covered on the test. While I did not personally take the SAT before college, I am equally as confident in preparing students for this college entrance exam as I am the ACT as many of the standard skills are the same.

I'm very passionate about helping students reach their full-potential. Everyone has the ability to learn and excel in every subject, and I love helping students achieve their goals. I strive to be always approachable and accessible for students. I'm interested in working with students of all ages, but I particularly can be of help to middle/high school students. I can also help adults going back-to-school. I look forward to helping students excel in their studies!
