All children have the capacity to learn. I like to see my students light up when learning and processing new information. I encourage and motivate them to achieve their full potential by using creative and fun techniques to make learning fun.

I have a bachelors degree in psychology and counseling, and am currently pursuing a masters degree in human services counseling focusing on marriage and family therapy. I have been a tutor for over five years and have worked in the Los Angeles Unified School District. I specialize in the subjects English and math. I enjoy working with kids and helping them achieve their academic goals. I structure my teaching style to each individual student, to accommodate his or her style of learning. It is important to establish a trusting relationship and be open and honest throughout the learning process. It is my goal to help every student become more confident in the subject of learning and to see an improvement over time.

I believe in verbal praise and positive reinforcement to build each students confidence with even the smallest of accomplishments. Seeing the smiles on their faces and that invisible light bulb shining brightly brings me joy.

I look forward to hearing from you and helping you achieve your educational goals.

ADD/ADHD

I have been a behavior therapist and counselor for over three years. I have worked with children, adolescents, and adults with ADD and ADHD. I work in public schools and provide services at home. I provide behavior support as well as educational support.

Dyslexia

I have been a behavior therapist and counselor for over three years. As a psychology undergraduate student, I took classes, which increased my awareness of the needs of people who are dyslexic. I have provided one-on-one academic support to many students who are dyslexic. I help them learn how to pace themselves when studying to avoid becoming overwhelmed. Through a multi-sensory approach, I use touch, movement, sound, and sight while teaching. I assist students with improving their focus and organizational skills to motivate them and build self-confidence.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am trained in early childhood education, and have worked with that age group for over five years. I have provided instruction in the classroom one-on-one and in small groups. I work with students performing below grade level as well as advanced in reading, writing, math, and science. I have a bachelor’s degree in psychology, and am pursuing a master’s degree in human services counseling.

Elementary Math

I am trained in early childhood education, and have worked with that age group for over five years. I have provided instruction in the classroom one-on-one and in small groups. I work with students performing below grade level as well as advanced in reading, writing, math, and science. I have a bachelor’s degree in psychology, and am pursuing a master’s degree in human services counseling.

Handwriting

An improvement in handwriting will make a significant difference in academic performance. I have worked in several elementary classrooms helping students with handwriting. I start with making sure they have proper posture and pencil grip. I have experience teaching students formation of letters and numbers, spacing between letters and words, size, correct print of capitalized and lower case letters, and cursive.

Phonics

I have years of experience teaching students the relationship between sounds and letters. I help the beginner reader with letter and sound recognition, and blending to make words, as well as provide reinforcement of non-mastered skills to older students. I promote phonemic awareness through fun learning games and activities, to increase self-awareness and self-confidence, to become a great reader.

Proofreading

I have many years of experience proofreading papers, currently my own as a graduate student, as well as assisting middle school through college students who need a fresh pair of eyes. I can help with the structure of the paper, as well as clarity, grammar, vocabulary, and typing errors.

Reading

I am trained in early childhood education, and have worked with that age group for over five years. I have provided instruction in the classroom one-on-one and in small groups. I work with students performing below grade level as well as advanced in reading, writing, math, and science. I have a bachelor’s degree in psychology, and am pursuing a master’s degree in human services counseling.

Special Needs

I have a bachelor’s degree in psychology, and am pursuing a master’s degree in human services counseling. I am ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) trained and work as a behavior therapist in the Los Angeles School District. I work with students who are autistic, ED (emotionally disturbed), and have ADD/ADHD, or other special circumstances. While I am always patient and compassionate, my tutoring strategies and techniques are determined by the needs of the child.

Writing

As an undergraduate, I attended several writing seminars, which taught me good writing skills that I still use today. As a graduate student, I continue to make use of those skills. I have experience working with students from elementary through college in writing. I have worked in elementary classrooms assisting students learning to write during writing workshop, helping them with writing techniques and creativity. I have also helped high school and college students with papers, from beginning ideas, to structure, revision, editing, and proofreading, to improve the final grade.

Experience Shows! Excellent Writing Tutor. — Melody knows how to work with my very distracted 4th grade son. She is patient and is constantly observing him to identify areas of weakness and strength. At his initial tutoring session, Melody was able to analyze the environment and make recommendations as to how to adjust the setting to help him focus. Her approach is calm, focused and positive. My son told me she was "gentle" and that he e ...
