Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ISEE

I am a Harvard and Teach for America alumnus and a certified teacher who has been tutoring ISEE in Los Angeles since 2011. I teach students a strategic approach to taking the test that enables them to minimize anxiety and maximize their scores on every multiple choice section; I also give students a strategic toolkit that helps them craft creative and well-structured ISEE essays. My ISEE students have seen their scores increase by as much as 4 stanines, and they have been consistently accepted into the top private schools in Los Angeles, including Harvard-Westlake, Brentwood, Loyola, New Roads, and Crossroads. As one happy parent said of my ISEE work, "No one should take the ISEE without first studying with you."

Study Skills

I earned my honors A.B. from Harvard in 2008, and my teaching certificate in 2009 through Teach for America. Since 2008, I have taught hundreds of students strategies to help them do well on standardized tests; the results speak for themselves. My college admissions students have seen gains of as much as 300 points on the SAT and 5 points on the ACT; my ISEE students have seen scores as high as 9s; and my academic pupils have seen their GPAs increase as much as two full letter grades.
