I graduated from the University of California Santa Barbara with a major in English and a minor in Physics. I have tutored math and physics for students enrolled at UCSB on a drop-in basis for the Campus Learning Assistance Services (CLAS) for 1 1/2 years. During this time, I also tutored UCSB students with learning disabilities and athletes on a one-on-one basis. Additionally, I tutored UCSB students as well as high school and middle school students privately in math and physics.

I started my studies at UCSB as a Physics major, but then changed my major to English. I have helped proofread essays for many of my peers (organization, grammar, and clarity).

I focus on helping the student arrive at the answer on their own. I believe that it is best to never tell the student any answers (because then, they will not be able reproduce that same answer on their own come test time). I am patient. I'm a firm believer in the quality of a session being far more important than attempting to get a bunch of sloppy work done in the limited time frame. Also, I always encourage my pupils to try and work through their problems before they come to me. A tutor is not a teacher. It is most effective for us help guide students who have already read through the book and tried to work through problems themselves first. This, I believe, is the way to allow students to truly understand the problem and then develop their ability to solve it themselves. I believe that the first step in succeeding in anything is displaying a willingness to learn.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I tutored students with ADD/ADHD one-on-one at the University of California Santa Barbara for 1 1/2 years. I tutored them in Physics and Math. I was very patient even when they got frustrated and discouraged and helped them understand the concepts.

Algebra 2

I have been tutoring students privately in Algebra 2 for 6 years now. I focus on helping the student reach a true understanding of all the concepts necessary to complete their assignment. If a concept has been skipped by the student, I will take them back to it and help them grasp it.

Calculus

I have completed vector calculus courses at the University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB).

Additionally, I tutored students for the Campus Learning Assistance Services (CLAS) at UCSB in calculus for 1 1/2 years. I help students understand the concepts in their textbooks in order to enable them to complete their homework and do well on their tests.

Differential Equations

I took Math at the University of California Santa Barbara up to Ordinary Differential Equations. I tutored students on Differential Equations for 1 1/2 years for the Campus Learning Assistance Services (CLAS) at UCSB. I helped students understand the concepts in their textbooks so that they could complete their homework and do well on the tests.

English

I majored in English at the University of California Santa Barbara. I have been helping students of all ages and levels with English for the past 6 years now. I find it better to have the student figure out as much of the material using their own brainpower as possible (with minimal lecturing from me). That is the deepest kind of learning in my opinion.

Linear Algebra

I took Vector Calculus up to Differential Equations at the University of California Santa Barbara (and received nothing under a B+ in any of those 4 classes). I tutored students in Linear Algebra for 1 1/2 years for the Campus Learning Assistance Services (CLAS) at UCSB. I help students understand the concepts in their textbook so that they can complete their homework and do well on their tests.

Physics

I earned my minor in Physics at the University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB). UCSB has a top 10 nationally ranked Physics undergraduate program. I tutored students in Physics for the Campus Learning Assistance Services (CLAS) at UCSB for 1 1/2 years. I focus on helping students understand the concepts in their book in order to solve their homework problems on their own. This helps them perform well on their tests.
