I am a former LAUSD 6th grade teacher. I enjoyed teaching young students, but because of California budget cuts, I pursued a new professional field of law. Even during my three years in law school, I still missed the classroom every day. I am very easy going and like to make learning fun and interactive. I am very passionate about education and I know the transformative power it can have on an individual's life. I hope I can play a part in making your child's educational experience enjoyable.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Chess

I have a basic to fundamental understanding of chess. I played chess a lot during my elementary and middle school years, and I also play leisurely as an adult. I am not advanced in theory or strategy, but I do know enough to teach the basics of the game and some of the basic strategies for winning. I participated in different activities for the chess club at my previous school that I use to teach at.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a California credentialed teacher for multiple subjects for grades K-8. I taught 6th grade English, Social Studies, and Math for 5 years with LAUSD. I enjoy teaching kids and engaging them in the subject matter.

Poker

I have been playing poker since I was in high school. I started playing Texas hold em a lot in college, and I still actively play at local casinos and in Vegas monthly. I know all the rules and would consider my self moderate when it comes to strategy.

Study Skills

As a mentor for a program called "Angel Gate Academy" I met with 15-20 middle school boys and girls to discuss they personal and academic lives. As part of this program developing healthy and efficient study skills was something we focused on in many of our meetings. I am good at helping students create a schedule which will allow for study time as well as personal matters. I explain to my students it's not always a matter of studying the hardest, but it's about studying the smartest.
