I am an experienced teacher who loves working with students of all ages and ability levels! I possess a current Clear Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and a Master's degree in Special Education. I have previously been certified in English, Social Studies, and Special Education, and I have experience teaching both general and special education students. I also have been trained by a major test preparation company, have taught both SAT and GRE preparation, and have scored in the top 90% of test-takers in all sections of the PSAT, SAT, and GRE.

I have classroom and tutoring experience with elementary through adult students. I have taught Math, English, Social Studies, Government, Reading, Writing, and Study Skills. I have taught students with special needs and students identified as "gifted," though I believe that all students are gifted in their own way, especially when they are given instruction that meets their needs.

Because I currently have an infant at home, I am hoping to tutor during the hours when my husband is not working: 6p.m. or later on weekdays or any time on the weekends. If something close to home might turn into a regular job, though, I'll consider getting a babysitter.

Contact me and we'll see if we're a good match!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

CBEST

I passed the CBEST on my first try with flying colors, and I have over eight years of experience teaching a variety of subjects. I am experienced teaching the reading, writing, and math skills needed to pass the CBEST.

Elementary (K-6th)

I currently hold a clear California teaching credential. I have taught fourth grade for one year and sixth grade for four years in the classroom.

Elementary Math

I currently hold a Multiple Subject Clear Credential, and I previously held a Mild/Moderate Preliminary Credential. Throughout my career, I have taught 6th grade math, language arts, social studies, and science.

GRE

I have been trained by a major test preparation company to teach the GRE, and I have experience tutoring with that company. When I took the test as a student, I scored 800 on the Math section and 6/6 on writing, and I recently scored 167 on a practice verbal test when I tried out the new GRE.

ISEE

I have been trained to tutor the ISEE by a company that specializes in ISEE preparation. I have reviewed every section of the ISEE at the Lower, Middle, and Upper level and I understand the types of questions on the test and the skills and strategies that students need to raise their score.

Study Skills

I am a credentialed teacher with over eight years of classroom experience with both general and special education students. I have previously been certified in special education, which included training in study skills. I also have several years of experience as a tutor and have integrated study and organizational skills throughout my teaching and tutoring.

Writing

I have years of experience with writing as both a student and a teacher. As a teacher, I've been trained in writer's workshop and have helped students make strong growth in their writing skills over the course of the school year. As a student, I won thousands of dollars in scholarship money from writing essays. I also scored 6.0/6.0 on the GRE Analytical Writing section.

I think that the easiest way to solve this problem is to plug in numbers and find the pattern.   First, I started by finding two numbers that make the equation true. I started with x=2, y=1.5. When I plug this into the equation, I get 6+3=9, which works.   Now, I need...

Excellent, patient tutor! — I enlisted Katherine's help for review and study for the GRE. My greatest concern was the math portion. Being that I am highly driven by the humanities and math has always been a extreme challenge for me, I was very nervous about looking at a math problem after not doing so for 8 years. My main concern was that I would have trouble learning what I needed for the math portion of the GRE with a tuto ...
