My goal is not merely to prepare students for an upcoming test or assignment, but to train them in best practices so that they can become self-sufficient. This means moving beyond the superficial to engage with a subject's core themes and methodology. Students generally show marked improvement and confidence after only a few lessons. Optimally, within six to ten lessons, the student has become an expert autodidact, with my services therefore redundant.

About me: I hold a BA from UCLA and a master's/soon PhD from the University of Oxford (I'm awaiting my dissertation defense, which will be held in December). I specialize in European history, English composition, the SAT/ACT verbal sections, college-application essays, and Latin. I have taught at Oxford and part-time at various prep schools, and have over five years of experience in 1-on-1 tutoring.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

European History

I have a BA in history from UCLA and am about to complete a PhD in history from the University Oxford. I have taught renaissance and medieval history at Oxford and an English prep school. I have also tutored American students in AP European history (100% of my students have passed the exam, most with 4s and 5s).
