Hello! My name is Noah and I am a 22 year old young prossional that works in the Latino Music
Industry. I received my bachelors degree from the University of Oregon, double majoring in Romance Languages (Spanish
) and Latin
American Studies. I am now fluent in Spanish because of a variety of experiences. I began studying Spanish in high school and, thanks to an inspirational teacher, spent two of my summers traveling to Costa Rica, Peru, and Ecuador on Language
-Learning programs, each for a little over a month.
Then, during my freshman year at Oregon, I enrolled in many upper-division Spanish classes and then decided to continue my studies by spending the following summer, studying abroad in Spain. My study abroad experience in Oviedo and Seville really helped to improve my language skills. During my sophomore year, I had the wonderful opportunity to intern as a Spanish-English
interpreter at a medical clinic in Eugene, Oregon. Working with immigrants truly inspired me to take a full semester, studying abroad in Puebla, Mexico,during the spring semester of my junior year. My classes were totally in Spanish and this is when I became fully fluent. I also had the opportunity to travel in Colombia, Ecuador, and participate in another internship program in a village in Nicaragua.
I have studied Spanish in traditional classroom settings as well as living in Spanish-speaking countries. Therefore, my teaching methods will vary, depending on my students' learning strengths. In terms of grammar
, I usually stick to traditional classroom techniques, while integrating actual situations that one finds in a day-to-day scenario. I teach vocabulary
through picture recognition and memorization methods, as well as conversation, so that the student can get used to using a word/phrase in common speech
. I also provide grammar and vocabulary sheets and "cheat-sheets" recommended by many international language professors.
I also focus on perfecting accent, a part of language often overlooked. For all of these components I will provide audio, speech, written, and reading
Last, but not least, I will always take into consideration, the student's motive for lessons. If a student prefers to spend more time working on grammar, rather than vocabulary, more time will be focused on that. Or, if a student needs tutoring for a specific class and/or tests, we can focus directly on his/her specific assignments. We will always try to speak in Spanish during our sessions, which will help the student progress on many levels.
