I have tutored for Professional Tutors of America for past 6 years teaching math, language arts and sciences for grades 1-12. Also I have private students with special needs (autism, mild-moderate, and special ed). I love tutoring children and especially instilling in them a love for learning, the adventure of learning. There is nothing more beautiful than to see a child get something, understand something for the first time. It is like a light goes on. It is why I tutor.
I have tutored students ( some of whom had) ADD and ADHD for a LAUSD program for the last 6 years. I have also tutored private students with ADD and use focusing techniques (almost exclusively) and a lot of patience to bring the student back to the present task. The main point is to get the students mind to slow down and take in the moment, so they can actually SEE the problem and then to get them to remain on the topic. I also am qualified to tutor PDD students. I teach meditation and use focusing on the present moment from this to help students stay centered.
I have tutored a student with autism ( mild to moderate) for the past four years using focusing techniques ( I also teach meditation) and repetition. It also involves presenting the problem or seeing the problem in different perspectives until the student begins to see how to approach the problem. This also involved working with his IEP counselor. It requires a lot of patience, but also relating experiences the student can understand in life (visual and practical) and applying this to his school work.

I have tutored students for a tutoring company in grades 1-12 (a lot of them in grades 4-10) in math, the sciences and language arts. We used Houghton Mifflin and Buckle Down workbooks as well as some skills worksheets offered by the company. The students followed a learning plan that was determined by Scranton testing to assess their strengths and weaknesses. The students were tested before and after using the Scranton testing method to determine their progress.
Took the MCATs for medical school and did fairly well. I also had courses in Anatomy, Physiology, Embryology, Microbiology, Genetics, college Biology and Biochemistry. In medical school, I again took Anatomy and Physiology as well as Neurobiology.
Have worked with elementary children in using Buckle Down and Houghton Mifflin workbooks to learn grammar and reading skills and have used phonics to help pre-school children learn to read and pronounce words.
