I hold a baccalaureate degree in English from the University of La Verne and received the designation of Departmental Honors with my undergraduate degree from the university English Department faculty. I am versed in all periods of American Literature and British Literature.

I am an engaging instructor who believes that experiential learning and examples based on real life experiences are the best way to instill and develop creative thinking in students. I am a positive and organized professional who has a strong work ethic and intuitive problem solving skills. My communication style is diplomatic, genuine, and interpersonal. My industry background includes corporate, nonprofit, higher education, health care, architecture and engineering, construction, real estate property management, and finance. I arrived to the United States when I was 5 years old, and spent my first several years in public school trying to understand, speak, and write American English from my native Central American language. My introduction came from public corrections of my annunciation, pronunciation, and grammar structure, which left me feeling ashamed rather than encouraging my learning. I share my story so that you will know that I truly understand what it feels like to learn English as a Second Language (ESL). My ESL tutoring sessions would be individually customized to assure that students master how to understand, read, write, and speak American English, with minimal stigma or embarrassment.

I am an avid wordsmith! Since my childhood, my favorite past-time was reading the dictionary and encyclopedia to expand my vocabulary. As an adult, I enjoy playing word games that incorporate a word's meaning with a witty clue. I am constantly in building mode when it comes to my vocabulary - no one can ever know it all (smile). It is these principles and love of learning that I hope to instill in my students. I would work hard with my students so that we could both enrich our lives with knowing the meaning of more words.
