Thank you for your interest in me as your child’s tutor. I am an experienced educator and have been a student volunteer, teaching assistant, teacher/tutor, categorical coordinator, principal designee and summer school principal for the Los Angeles Unified School District. I am looking forward to working as a tutor while providing support for parents who already have too much on their plate. I can help a student tackle his/her homework load, improve his/her organizational skills, improve time management skills, help/guide student with school projects (individual and/or group), edit papers and assist in doing research online.

Including my 26-year career with LAUSD, I am an individual who has the skill set to excel as your youngster’s tutor. I have a B.A. in English Literature from UCLA as well as a minor in Diversified Liberal Arts. I attained my Multiple Subject Clear Credential from UCLA in 1984; and am credentialed to teach English and ESL up to 9th grade. I received my Master's in Educational Administration from CSLA and attained my first Administrative Tier Credential. I began a doctorate degree online, and plan to return and finish my dissertation. I have "A" level fluency in Spanish and am innovative, hard working, and focused.

I am a parent of two young men; my 21-year old son has Asperger’s, ADHD (Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder), ODD (Oppositional Defiance Disorder) and is currently double majoring in Mathematics and History at UCLA. My son has just finished his honor’s senior thesis on the History of Economics in 19th Century America with Professor Andrea Yeager. My younger son, who is 16 years old, has High Functioning Autism, ADHD and OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) attends High School and is taking: AP American History, AP English Composition, Honor’s Biology, Graphic Design, Math Analysis, Italian, and has a passion for birds and sailing. Although both of my sons are highly gifted, we have lived through many challenges. Without the right support, educating your child can be almost impossible to get through. That’s where I come in.

I have the experience and energy to take on whatever task is necessary and would be honored to share my experiences and learn from new ones. I look forward to answering any questions that you may have and hope that you would consider me for this unique opportunity.

Sincerely,

Segalit

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Autism

I have two sons who have Asperger's with ADHD and ODD and the other with High Functionin Autism, OCD and ADHD. I have worked with Autistic students and lived with them for 21 years. I will be able to help your child speak, read and write. It may take a little more time until a connection has been made. I am very sensitive and will follow the child's need by incorporating his/her interests as we learn. My former autistic students became very attached to me and thrived.
