From a young age, doing well in school was of the utmost importance to me. I graduated as Valedictorian of my high school class, where I took challenging courses such as AP Spanish, AP Calculus, AP World History, and many honors classes. As I played soccer and had theater rehearsals up to four hours per day, I had to develop extremely efficient study habits. I know how much pressure there is to get good grades, whether it be at an elementary, middle, or high school level, and my goal is to provide guidance and support to students at any stage in their scholastic career.
I continued my studies at USC, where I graduated with honors in 2011. Although my degree is from the Annenberg school of Communication, I was able to study a wide breadth of subjects during my time there. Throughout all four years I was in The SoCal VoCals (the top a cappella group in the nation) as well as a sorority, so I again had to budget my time meticulously in order to get everything done. I graduated Magna Cum Laude and then took a job teaching voice lessons under the direction of Valerie Morehouse, who is now the head vocal coach for the hit TV show Nashville.
After working exclusively as an actress and singer for the past two years with roles in such films as 'Pitch Perfect' and '42' (which will be released this April), I am looking to get back to my roots and tutor students in not only voice and acting, but also subjects such as math, English, history and spanish. I'd like to focus on making study habits efficient so that students can spend more time on extracurricular activities, and I'd also like to make studying as fun as possible. Learning should come with a sense of excitement and accomplishment, and I wish to impart that on every student I teach.
I would absolutely love to tutor elementary school children. I graduated first in my high school class and Magna Cum Laude from USC, so I feel more than qualified to teach the subjects, but I love working with kids. While at USC, I helped with an after school program for local children and would love to continue that type of work. My goal would be to make learning fun and efficient so that my students can build great study habits for the future.
As an actor with a BA in Communication from USC, I feel that public speaking is something with which I can help anyone. After taking a semester long course at USC entitled "Public Speaking," I realized just how scary the task can be for most people, yet it is necessary in most professions at one point or another. I am a positive motivator, and I am able to adjust the pace at which I teach depending on the student. Whether I am helping a 5th grader run for student council or an adult hold a breakfast meeting for coworkers, I feel confident that I can improve his or her skills.
I began my soccer career at age five in "Kinderkickers." I continued to play in leagues ranging from recreational to competitive for the next thirteen years, and even now it remains part of my life. I played recreationally in college, and less than a year ago I was cast in a soccer commercial for Panasonic alongside Abby Wombach. I can run drills ranging from juggling to dribbling to shooting with great ease, and I feel very confident that I can help anyone but an expert improve their skills.
As Valedictorian of my high school class and a Magna Cum Laude graduate of USC, I believe I can impart a great deal of advice about study skills: which methods to use, how to study efficiently, and how to make it fun. My methods include flash cards, creating study guides, and annotating while reading materials.
I began swimming at the age of three, and I competed as a swimmer for the next fifteen years. I am an expert in freestyle, butterfly, breaststroke and backstroke. For any child that wants to learn how to swim or any adult that wants to learn how to swim better, I feel I'd be a great coach.
I have acted in over 10 theater productions (lead roles in over half), and I have had supporting roles in "Pitch Perfect" (Universal Pictures) and "42" (Legendary Pictures). I have taken acting classes under the instruction of Margie Haber, Lesly Kahn and Sara Mornell - all reputable teachers in the Los Angeles area. I have been earning a living for two years strictly as an actress and singer. I know various methods of coaching, and I know quite a bit about the industry.
