The Pennsylvania State University, University Park (Master's)

As a child of two math teachers, I was raised to not only understand math, but also to understand how to explain the concepts to others. My love for science came later, and I’ve spent my career in the health sciences field.
After graduating Emory University with a degree in neuroscience, and completing my masters in science at Penn State, I spent over 8 years working at the Centers for Disease Control. I recently returned to school to complete my PhD in epidemiology and biostatistics at USC, in which I am in my third year.
I have plenty of teaching experience, assisting in undergraduate and graduate level courses in molecular genetics, epidemiology, and biostatistics. I also regularly volunteer for after school tutoring at 826LA, and have previously volunteered with Big Brothers/ Big Sisters in Atlanta. These experiences, combined with over 12 years of babysitting and nanny experience have given me the proper tools on how to relate and effectively help students in their learning goals.
My teaching style is simple, but effective, and goes beyond “helping with homework”. I want each student to not only be able to complete the work, but to also understand the hows and whys of each answer. My specialties are in the math and science areas, but I also can help with test prep and computer programs (Microsoft Office, SAS, R, STATA, etc).

Tara is good at understanding how I think so she can correct my misunderstanding. She has a lot of visual explanations.
Tara was extremely patient with me. She thoroughly explained the concepts and gave me helpful tips for the exams. I'm glad she was my Genetics tutor and I highly recommend her to anyone. You won't be disappointed.
Tara was great. She was flexible when I had to change the day of our session, she was quick to respond to communication, and she was dependable by showing up on time! I am taking an advanced stats class, and she really met my needs by being well versed in the material I needed to go over. I appreciated that she took the time to go over my assignment that I sent her before our meeting so that we could get straight down to business and use our time efficiently. Not to mention she has a very warm and relatable disposition, and communicates ideas well. Overall, if you need a stats tutor, go with Tara!
Excellent tutor comes prepared with lessons, is very flexible and very knowledgeable about the subject.
Ms. Tara is a great tutor, I definitely feel every penny is worth it. She is very patient, very flexible about the times where I can meet. She has been a great help for me!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a PhD student in epidemiology and biostatistics. Besides taking several courses, I have also previously tutored and was a TA for the graduate intro course in biostatistics at USC. I am also proficient in SAS, R, SPSS, and STATA.
I am a PhD student in epidemiology at USC where I specialize in gene and environment interactions and their effects on disease. My masters degree at Penn State in Biobehavioral Health concentrated on the molecular genetics of drug abuse. I have taken several classes in genetics, and worked for over 8 years at the Centers for Disease Control as a molecular geneticist. I previously have been a teachers assistant for molecular genetics at the college level.
I specialize in teaching basic mendelian genetics (high school level), as well as understanding allele frequencies, hardy-weinberg equilibrium, and pedigree trees. I can also help with college level genetics and molecular genetics.
I am currently a third year PhD student at USC in epidemiology and biostatistics. Besides taking several courses, I have also previously tutored and was a TA for the graduate intro course in biostatistics at USC. I am also proficient in SAS, R, SPSS, and STATA. I can help you understand the basic skills needed for statistics, particularly biological statistics, including probabilities, distribution, parametric and non-parametric tests, odds ratios, confidence intervals, and much more.
