I am a music history student in a PhD program at USC that has taught piano lessons for 15 years in LA. I enjoy teaching privately and can help students with music theory, music history, and piano studies. I studied piano, sight singing, and harmony in Boston, music history in Indiana and now am working on a PhD with an emphasis in American popular music. I will travel to your home depending upon the location.
I began my theory training in 1986 at Cabrillo Community College. In 1989, I went on to study harmony, ear training, and solfege at the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, MA with Judith Ross, a student of Nadia Boulanger. From there I went on to pursue my BA at Indiana University and passed all my theory entrance exams. When I came to USC to pursue my PhD in Musicology, I also passed all of my theory and orchestration entrance exams.
I received my BA from Indiana University in Music Composition and Criticism, a degree program I designed so that I could study with Peter Burkholder from the musicology faculty. I am currently a PhD Candidate (ABD) in Musicology at USC and was awarded the Teaching Fellowship by my department.
I have studied piano privately since I was a child. I studied piano at the college level from 1989-1992 at the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, MA. I have been a private piano teacher in Los Angeles, CA since 1997. I have taught piano at the Los Angeles Music and Art school in East Los Angeles, CA for five years.
