I recently completed a master's degree in Gender Policy from London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), and I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Chapman University, where I graduated Magna Cum Laude. I also enhanced my undergraduate studies by participating in a summer program at Georgetown University called the Engalitcheff Institute for Comparative Political and Economic Systems. Upon completion of the program, I was awarded the "Academic Excellence in Political Science" award given to 1 student out of the 143 participants.
My true passion for Political Science is driving me to help those who believe they "hate" the subject or "just don't get it" realize how interesting and exciting the field can be. As the president of Pi Sigma Alpha Political Science Honor Society at Chapman, I would often speak with students about why political science is important, and how it can be a fun subject with the right professor/instructor. I was effective in creative several "aha" moments in students younger than myself at Chapman, and would love the opportunity to continue creating those moments with new students as a tutor. I find it truly rewarding to not only see students understand course material, but also see them learn how to connect the material to how they may live their everyday lives. Being able to make those connections is what makes students thrive in social science classes. I believe I am able to facilitate the correct mode of thinking in students that will help them excel in any political science/government/social science/humanities course. I look forward to meeting you!
To my surprise, college courses in American Politics had little to do with current American Politics. We were not sitting in class discussing bills being passed or the most recent political scandal. What we studied and read about most in American Politics classes was American history. We were always studying questions such as: How did our system form? Why is it the way it is today? What were key events that shaped the US Political system? This coursework gave me a unique perspective and understanding of America's complex history.
English has always been one of my favorite subjects. It is so multifaceted and once one begins to analyze literature and the use of rhetoric, the subject takes on an entire new meaning. There are so many components wrapped up in English, including but not limited to: grammar, writing style, technique, rhetoric, hermeneutics, and even philosophy to a certain extent. Applying to graduate school and having so few words to describe my entire existence in 500 words undoubtedly made me crafty with words.
My Political Science Coursework includes:
Political Research Design
Mass Media Law
The Politics of Law
Race and Change in South Africa and the U.S.
Model United Nations
Sexual Politics in a Diverse Society
Themes in Political Theory
Transformation of American Politics
Comparative Economics and Politics
I am a recent graduate of Chapman University, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. My political science GPA was 4.0 upon graduation. I will be attending the London School of Economics to further my study of public policy in the Fall of 2013.

Majoring in a social science discipline, in my case Political Science, requires a substantial amount of writing. Writing countless 10-15+ page papers for 4 years develops not only writing skills, but also proofreading skills. It is not uncommon for college students to proofread each others work; it is through this activity I developed a keen eye for proper grammar.
