Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

CBEST

The California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST) is extremely manageable with the right support. When I took the CBEST in 2006, I earned nearly perfect scores on both the reading and math sections of the exam. If you're an aspiring teacher and you'd like help preparing for your CBEST, please let me know.

SAT Reading

One of my tutoring specialties is helping students maximize their scores on the critical reading section of the SAT. Over the past couple of years, I have developed several easy-to-implement strategies that have resulted in major score improvements for my SAT critical reading students. In November 2014, one of my students went from a 540 to a 690 on the critical reading section of the SAT. While this student's score improvement was particularly impressive, many of my other SAT critical reading students have seen substantial score improvements as well. It's never too soon to start preparing for the SAT, so if you need support with the critical reading section, be sure to let me know.
