If you are looking for an enthusiastic, encouraging and engaging tutor in languages and the humanities, look no further. I have been studying French for nine years. I have visited France twice and spent four months living in Dakar, Senegal, a West African former French colony. I have a deep love and devotion to the language and love teaching it to others. I have been studying Spanish for five years and also love it. I have never visited a Spanish speaking country, but luckily we have many Spanish speakers right here in the USA, so I practice every chance I get. This Fall I will be teaching Latin to 6th graders. Fun fact: French and Spanish are both Romance Languages, which means that they are derived from Latin, the language of the Roman Empire.

I also majored in Religious Studies at DePauw University, which has prepared me to teach about the practices, structures, world-views and more of the world's many religion, especially the 5 world religions: Judaism, Islam, Christianity, Buddhism and Hinduism. Along with understanding how religions and their devotees function, I have an understanding and appreciation of various parts of the world that vary as much as France, India, Gambia, Bolivia and South Africa. This has prepared me to deal with many subjects in the humanities and the social sciences such as European, American and World History, Geography, basic political Science, Sociology and other subjects.

If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Social Studies

I am a 6th grade teacher at the Highlands Latin School where I teach all subjects including American Studies, Classical Studies and Christian Studies. These subjects fall squarely within the Social Studies realm but vary by time period whether ancient, classical or pre-modern/modern. My method for teaching/tutoring Social Studies is to paint a picture of the time and situate it within history using both stories and dates to help anchor them within history.

Spanish

Proficiency in Elementary, Intermediate and Advanced Spanish with knowledge in:
Hispanic Literature, Spanish grammar and composition, Spanish conversation and phonetics

I have been studying Spanish for 5 years, including 4 years in college.

Track & Field

I was a track and field athlete in high school. I ran the 400m and 800m dash. I was a member of the 4x400m and 4x800m relay teams. I have since kept up running and will soon run the marathon in May. I also coach soccer, which has furnished me with the skills to coach athletes, regardless of the sport.
