Kind, responsible, and well-trained, I possess a PhD in English and over 10 years of educational experience. I have helped individuals and small groups ranging from the 6th grade to college level courses. Although my specialization is essay writing and language arts, I have successfully tutored students in arithmetic and algebra. I am also familiar with test-taking strategies for the SAT.
One of my proudest achievements was when I worked with an LAUSD charter after-school program. When I arrived, some of the students were struggling with the practice exit examinations, but by the time I left, they had exceeded the requirements for the state exams.
For me, the typical tutoring relationship begins with an assessment of the student's abilities and needs. From there, sessions start with a topic introduction and warm-up exercise. In my years of tutoring and teaching, I am delighted to say that I have guided many individuals to becoming better, happier students. I believe that the ability to do well is in everyone if that ability is nurtured by commitment and skill. If my training and experience seem like a fit for you, please don't hesitate to get in touch. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
