I believe that education is a core value that allows people to live enriched and meaningful lives. I have been an educator for nearly 18 years and have taught people of all ages from Kindergarten to college. I have seen many different types of learners and enjoy making the material relevant and understandable to all students. I teach with enthusiasm, sincerity and the expected outcome of imparting knowledge, wisdom and useful skill-sets to all students. My teaching method is based on observation, inquiry/dialog, instruction and outcome. Please let me know if I can be of assistance.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Art History

I have a BFA in painting and drawing and went to a NASAD accredited school. I took seven art history classes, all of which were writing intensive. These classes covered an overview of western art history from ancient to contemporary times and then became more specific to time periods, movements and styles. I also worked at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art for over five years where I was required to learn about the history of various art objects and the social, economic and political structures that promoted various art cultures and movements. In my own work as a practicing artist and an educator I am constantly researching art in a historical context.

Drawing

I earned a BFA in Painting and Drawing. I currently teach Color and Design at the Academy of Art University. I have taught painting, drawing and mixed media in college, through the Los Angeles County Museum of Art as well as through private instruction in my studio. My paintings have been featured in gallery exhibitions and auctions in Los Angeles, Oakland, New York and other east coast cities.
