It is a pleasure to currently serve the Los Angeles community in Elementary Education. As a LAUSD substitute I get to serve all communities in the Los Angeles area. I work primarily with K-5 students in reading, writing English and Math. I am thoroughly experienced in the Open Court and CA Treasures reading Curriculums. I am a native English speaker as well. I currently hold a CA Music Credential and perform french horn throughout the area.

I have had a love for teaching since graduating in 1986 with a Music Education degree. Music is a language that must be taught in order to fully educate child and young adult. I am enthusiastic. I am inspirational, and I believe in each and every student's ability to Master what he or she has set out to do. I look forward to working with you.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Ear Training

I have a CA Single Subject Credential in Music K-12. This makes me legally eligible to teach all aspects of the musical genres in grades K-12. I have a Music Education degree from the Florida State University where I studied music dictation, music theory, music history, french horn, and took instrumental techniques in brass, woodwinds, strings and percussion. In addition, I learned Piano as well. I also have a masters degree from the Peabody Conservatory of music where I took further classes in ear training, sight singing in "movable do", history, theory and french horn.
Since graduation, I have worked as an elementary music teacher, teaching both general music and children's choir. I also have experience teaching Middle School Band.
When I am not teaching a long term assignment in Music, I work with elementary grades K-5. I frequently teach phonics to 5 and 6 year olds using sound cards and blending sounds to make words.

General Music

I have a CA Single Subject Credential in Music.
