Composition (Music)

I studied music composition under Dr. Philip Shackleton at Azusa Pacific University. I have always enjoyed the process of breathing life into "little black dots." Watching a piece of music become a reality, often spawned from a small idea, is pure magic. I have many hours of original music and I also really enjoy arranging music. I have had original arrangements performed by orchestra. I score indie films, write video game music and also write progressive metal and jazz.

Ear Training

I studied Ear Training under Dr. John Sutton at Azusa Pacific University. Ever since taking my first Ear Training class in college, I have been very interested in developing my ears. As a musician, your ears are your most valuable asset. The ability to hear melodies and chord progressions fascinates me. If your able to do this, you can learn songs while in the car listening to the radio, or at church, hearing the band. With a trained ear, you have the incredible advantage of knowing what combination of tones are responsible for the emotional stimulus they create.

Instead of looking up tabs on the internet, to learn how to play a song, you can just listen. Instead of stumbling around on your instrument to find the right sound, or notes, you can take a shortcut to the right ones with developed ears. Ear training has changed my life in a powerful way and it can do the same for you!

Guitar

My relationship with the guitar began when I was 14. I became obsessed with the sounds I could create, using the guitar as a sonic paintbrush to sketch my ideas, I became enraptured with its beauty and elegance. I studied classical guitar under Michael Kozubek M.M. at Azusa Pacific University. Michael Kozubek is an amazing instructor and taught me, above all, how to be musical. He also studied under Andres Segovia, who is considered to be the father of the modern classical guitar. 13 years later, I enjoy playing even more. It's a never ending process and I eagerly look forward to becoming more musical as time goes on.

Approved Subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet certified in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
