My name is Jessie and I am brilliant at tutoring! I have years of experience and am committed to helping you succeed. Let me, a well-rounded engineer, help you master math
You are taking a math or science class and the concepts are starting to pile up. Maybe you don't quite understand some of the techniques, and your teacher's explanations are confusing! You have tried a number of the practice problems, but they are so complex, it's hard to know where to start! Why is this stuff important anyway? Where is this class going?
It's time to get a tutor - someone who cares about your success, who can help you understand and get back on track, and show you why this stuff is important.
I am a great tutor because I can teach from many angles and understand all sides of a problem. Seeing from a student's point of view is essential for tutoring - I make a student understand how and why a solution works so that they will remember it for the future. I also help students understand practical applications of the material so they understand its importance and want to learn it. I am a well-rounded tutor - I understand technical details AND can explain them. I love to see students succeed and appreciate that I can be part of the process. I am proud of the stars awarded to me by my students.
I have been tutoring professionally since 2004. I tutor advanced levels of math, from Algebra
, and Pre-Calc
, Linear Algebra
, and Differential Equations
, and even special math topics for advanced science classes. I also tutor in Physics
, both high school, AP, and college-level.
I am an experienced, friendly, and patient tutor - if you've been thinking about getting a tutor for math or science, you can bet on me! And remember, you can get a full refund for the first hour session if you aren't completely happy with the results, so there is no risk for you! I would love to hear from you - send me an email
and I'll get in touch asap.
Some quick logistics:
**I am only available on weekends and 4:30-7PM on weekdays (later upon request).
**My posted rate is for meeting at my apartment in West LA.** If you want to meet somewhere more convenient for you (within a 5-mile radius), my rate will increase to compensate for driving expenses (additional driving time, gas, and insurance), and sessions have to last at least one hour.
In 2006, Oberlin College of Liberal Arts and Sciences accepted me with the highest award of merit, the John Frederick Oberlin Scholarship. By 2008 I earned a B.A. in Music
and was able to graduate from this 4-year institution in just 2 years!
In 2012 I graduated from Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering, one of the top undergraduate engineering institutions in the country (comparable to MIT and CalTech), with a Mechanical Engineering
degree. Olin only accepts about 150 students each year, and I was awarded a full-tuition scholarship. While I studied engineering, I also learned about the importance of communication and human interactions, and how to explain difficult concepts to a general audience. These skills translate directly into my tutoring style - while I understand math and science, I can also explain it to you so that you actually understand!
I currently work at Boeing as a Mechanical Design and Analysis Engineer. Everyday I use math and science for my work on airplanes, so it's great to see a direct translation of topics I studied in HS/college go straight into my work. I am very happy to be back home in Southern California!
