I have a business degree, a law degree and a master's degree in teaching English as a 2nd language from the University of IL and over 15 years of teaching experience. I teach all areas of ESL: grammar, reading, writing, listening and speaking, conversation, legal or business writing, public speaking, TOEFL, SAT, ACT, LSAT prep ... My system for teaching pronunciation or accent neutralization is unique and well-organized. I also teach diction coaching for native speakers who would like to improve their speaking or acting skills. I was born in Illinois and have a standard American English accent. Vocabulary

For middle schoolers I love to use the books, Word smart Junior to teach vocabulary. We learn from vocabulary from context and then play lots of vocabulary games. For high schoolers, we study prefixes, roots and suffixes.

For adults, I love to teach vocabulary through reading and discussing articles together and talking about the new vocabulary.

Grammar

Having an ESL background, I am fluent in all the English grammar rules. I know how to organize and teach them, and I have several grammar textbooks and workbooks that I work with.

Reading

I've finished graduate school and law school, so I've learned to read and evaluate many types of advanced text. Let me show you how to bring logical thinking into your reading. We'll work reading strategies as well as meaning analysis.

Writing

I've taught writing for graduate and undergraduate students at the University of Illinois. We can improve your expository and persuasive writing. We can work on academic, legal or business writing. We'll get your organization and paragraph development under control and spice up your vocabulary and sentence variety!

English

I am knowledgeable in grammar, writing, literature and reading. I passed AP English in high school and took higher level English classes in college. I earned A's in all my English classes. I'm also currently writing four books.

ESL/ESOL

I have a master's in teaching ESL from the University of Illinois. I teach all aspects of ESL, including listening, speaking, reading, writing, grammar and pronunciation. I also teach ESL for specific purposes such as business or law.

Proofreading

If you need someone to look over your college admission essay or any other important papers, I'm the proofreader! Let's find all those mistakes and correct that paper!

Law

I graduated with a J.D. from the University of Illinois. I have great legal writing and argument preparation skills.

SAT Reading

I studied for the LSAT and scored well over the 90%. I took Kaplan courses in how to prepare for that test. The LSAT is more difficult than the SAT. Both have reading comprehension sections, so I'm confident I can help you with SAT reading.

SAT Writing

I taught writing to undergrad and graduate students at the University of IL. I've earned A's in any writing course I've ever taken, and I'm currently writing three books.

TOEFL

I used to teach TOEFL preparation classes for Kaplan, where students pay top dollar, so I know how to prepare you for the TOEFL. Plus, I think the TOEFL is fun! So let's have fun preparing together!

ACT Reading

I did well on the ACT when I was in high school. I have also taken the LSAT and took Kaplan classes for how to prepare for that, so I know all the tricks. I have also taught test taking strategies for Kaplan.

ACT English

I can help you with the grammar/mechanics as well as the rhetorical skills for the ACT English test.

Public Speaking

I won my high school's top senior speech award, I've taken public speaking in college, I've graduated from law school, I acted on stage and I teach diction coaching, so I have a lot to offer to those wanting to practice their public speaking!
