I enjoy working with young people and believe education is a lifestyle. Each person is unique and has his/her own learning style, along with different strengths and weaknesses, so I would tailor my methods and materials to fit your student's style. I've home schooled two children from kindergarten through high school, culminating in my son being accepted to the UCLA Computer Science program and my other son attending UC Davis. I chose this type of schooling because I wanted to be involved in education and work with children one on one. Also my goal is for children to enjoy learning and not be empty containers to be filled up.
I have been tutoring for more than three years and specialize in the Elementary Grades. My lessons are fun and stimulating to maintain the students' attention.
When I first meet your son or daughter, I would begin with an evaluation to see where they are at; that way I would know where to start teaching him/her and the best way to approach his/her subject(s). I am open and flexible to your ideas and suggestions and to tailoring my teaching around your student's schoolwork. My goal is for your student to succeed and enjoy learning and ultimately not need me.
I vary my methods and provide a variety of materials, from hands-on manipulatives and games to fun books in order to engage your student and keep him/her interested and challenged. My emphasis is on building a solid foundation for your student, so that he/she understands the different concepts upon which higher learning is built.
I am a member of the Girl Scouts of Northern California.
I look forward to meeting you and helping your child succeed.
