I believe in empowering students. After teaching and tutoring for three years, I've found that the most effective learning occurs when the students discover that they can solve problems and understand concepts on their own. I aim to facilitate this understanding. That said, I find that humor and patience are equally important. Learning does not have to be painful.
About me: I am a film journalist who recently moved to Los Angeles after spending three years in Paris, France. There -- In addition to writing and covering film festivals like Cannes -- I taught a business-oriented ESL course to students at the Sorbonne University.
I also tutored a wide variety of students privately, including three who attended an English, International school. I helped these students improve their written-expression skills, helped edit and synthesize their college essays, and prepared them for their SAT and TOEFL exams. All three made it into prestigious schools in the US and Canada, including McGill and BU.
Additionally, I tutored an 6-year-old ESL student, a middle-aged deaf native speaker who wanted to improve his writing and a English/Film PHD student who wanted guidance about the style and structure of her thesis. So I have extensive experience teaching all levels, ages and backgrounds.
Finally, after living in France for three years, I am fluent in the language, and can add a bit of cultural background to French lessons. Currently, I am an editor and writer for the leading international film site, Twitch. Accordingly, I am continuing to hone my skills as a writing guide/tutor everyday as I continue to work with new writers and pursue my own writing.
So please do consider me for any SAT, English, French or Writing needs you may have. I look forward to hearing from you!
