I am an artist, musician, and writer based in Los Angeles, CA. My undergraduate degree is in Jazz Studies, my Master's is in Fine Art. As a musician, I've performed throughout North America and Europe, as well as in New Delhi, India. I have released five CDs as a leader or co-leader, all to critical acclaim. As an artist, my field is the recently-emerged field of "social practice," a wide-ranging set of practices that often demand a high degree of theoretical literacy. My work has been shown or presented in New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, and San Francisco, among others. Finally, although I don't have a degree in writing - yet - my fiction has been published by the online journal Marco Polo and my nonfiction writing is published by the Dutch arts journal Club Donny and the Canadian arts journal Fillip in late 2013/early 2014. I am also associate editor for the book What We Want is Free: Critical Exchange in Recent Art, published by SUNY Press in 2014.
As a tutor, I pride myself on a patient, methodical approach to learning difficulties. Whether it is trumpet problem, writer's block, or art-theoretical confusion, I believe that, with calmness and tenacity, almost any difficulty can be solved. I have taught private trumpet lessons on and off since 2000 and tutored in art history, theory, and writing in my final semester of graduate school. Although being a writing tutor is an admittedly recent development for me, I feel that the distance between teaching trumpet and tutoring writing is in fact quite small: although the subject is very different, my approach is the same.
I look forward to working with you or your child!
