I've been playing piano for eighteen years, and teaching for three years. When I was sixteen, I completed the exam for advanced piano performance & music theory from the MTAC (Music Teachers Association of California). Since then I've been focused on studying the works of great composers and writing my own music. I have extensive experience teaching children in various of fields. My first job at sixteen was as an elementary/middle school tutor. I helped students in after-school homework center improve their scores in every subject from Math to History. I've also worked as a tennis instructor for Lifetime Tennis in Cupertino, CA, where I taught ages 5 to 17 the strategy and technique of tennis.
My goal with all my students is to help them become complete musicians. That means developing the ability to sight-read, improvise, and interpret music, as well as the ability to write their own music. I begin by establishing the fundamentals of technique and fingering. I assign exercises and songs to help establish sight reading skills, and give students a holistic approach to the instrument. My students quickly gain the ability to play pieces from great composers such as J.S. Bach and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. This material is supplemented with theory coursework from "Basics of Keyboard Theory", by Johnson.
Once a year, my students have the opportunity to participate in a recital at a local church in downtown Los Angeles to showcase their skills.
