I am a friendly native-English speaking English language tutor originally from London, England, now based in L.A. I achieved the top mark in my Cambridge University (CELTA) English Language training and have been teaching private and group lessons for over four years.

Before teaching, I produced and directed documentaries for BBC Television and traveled all over the world - so I have a broad understanding and appreciation of many different cultures and languages.

Whatever your requirements I have the training and experience to help you, and I will cater my lessons to your specific needs and learning style. Whether you just want to improve your English for day-to-day life or whether you are preparing for an exam or a job interview. I can help you improve your English in all areas - be it reading, writing, speaking, listening - or if you need extra work with your grammar or your vocabulary.

In addition, I have a great deal of experience teaching English in preparation for exams (IELTS, FCE, CAE, CPE, SATs) and also business English. I have a lot of my own materials, course books, CDs, games, past exam papers, etc. which I will use to help you achieve the level you need to.

I also offer proofreading and copy-editing services or can help you improve your resume for college, university, or job applications.

Grammar

Through my CELTA qualification, in which I achieved top marks, I was trained to teach all elements of English grammar. I have been teaching grammar to students and adults for over 3 years. English is my native language and I am a professional proofreader and copy-editor so I have extensive knowledge of the grammar and syntax of the English language.

Reading

I have been trained to teach reading skills through my CELTA ESL qualifications. I achieved the top mark in my CELTA. I also received a 1st Degree (with honors) in my major. I am trained in the use of phonetics and phonemes so am well-placed to help with pronunciation as well.

Writing

Having achieved an 'A' Grade in my CELTA teaching qualification, I am well placed to teach writing skills to students. Since that time, I have clocked up 3 years of teaching writing skills - be it essays, reviews, presentations, formal letters - to students of all ages and levels.

I also achieved a 90% mark for my college thesis and a 1st degree for my major (History) which required a great deal of essay writing and well-formed arguments.

ESL/ESOL

I achieved a Pass A Grade (the top mark) in my Cambridge University CELTA qualification. This is the most highly-regarded ESOL qualification in the world and I received my training at International House, another very esteemed ESOL institution. I have been teaching ESL group classes and one-to-one private lessons for four years.

Proofreading

I am a professional proofreader. I do proofreading work for a number of English Language publishers, including Macmillan Education. I am trained to use the professions mark-up symbols, if required.

TOEFL

I achieved the top mark in my Cambridge University CELTA English Language teaching qualification. Within that training period I learned the various English language exam requirements. Since then I have taught and guided English students through their TOEFL exams. Along with TOEFL I also prepare students for IELTS, FCE, CAE, and CPE exams.

Spelling

I am a professional proof-reader and copy editor, and it is part of that job to know how each and every word is correctly spelled. I also know the phonetic spellings of every word so can help students in their pronunciation of words that don't sound how they're spelled, and vice versa.
