I will collaborate with you and your child's teacher in order to provide the most effective support in: spelling, reading comprehension, fluency, grammar, and writing. Using the best of Orton Gillingham methodology, Susan Barton Spelling and Reading System, an Wilson Reading system I will create an individualized plan for you.
Phonological awareness, understanding that spoken words are made up of smaller sounds, is crucial to decoding and is fundamental to being a fluent reader. Dyslexic students who struggle to read often cannot decipher the sounds needed to read because the necessary brain neurons are not there to do so. The good news is brain imaging has shown that with systematic, explicit and intensive instruction the “hard wiring” needed to be a skilled reader can be developed in the brain!
I am a scholar in the Orton Gillingham method of reading instruction for children with reading disabilities, dyslexia, or significantly behind in school.
