I hope I can help you relieve some of the stress involved in this process. I firmly believe that education is the single most important tool for a child to succeed. I like to show students the practical applications of math, and love to see the confidence they gain as they start recognize their strengths. This then leads to my ability to help instill in students a general sense of optimism about their future aspirations. I've often helped those struggling in subjects, or even those who have fallen on rough times and had to drop out of school at some point. Math is just one tool I use to get them interested again. Just as important is understanding their struggles and forming a plan to tackle those hurdles. As we work through general lesson plans I can begin to talk about broad subjects such as applying for college, financial planning, or even sports. I live a healthy lifestyle and it touches everything I do as well.
I graduated from the University of Southern California in May, 2000 with a degree from the Marshall School of Business. I was admitted two years early into the Marshall School as a Business Scholar. While at USC I discovered I enjoyed helping other student during tutoring sessions and have since spent most of my volunteer work helping students with math. Most recently I was involved with The Reading Council and Chrysalis, two organizations helping those in need obtain the skills to continue their education and better their life. My approach to tutoring is a partnership, I am invested in the student's achievements and want to teach him or her the skills to excel when they are on their own.
I also have a sports background if you are looking to complement the mental with the physical. I stay active with tennis, running and Muay Thai training. I've often noticed that students that get regular exercise gain confidence, reduce stress, and in turn do better in the classroom.
It would be my pleasure to discuss further the ways in which I can help you. Thanks for taking the time to read, talk to you soon.
