My professional experience is in special education and sports and fitness for people with special needs. I have worked with adults and children with special needs in physical education and academics for over fifteen years. As an adapted physical education instructor, I have planned programming in sports and fitness at the community college and university level. I have also worked with very young children with special needs in recreational programs.
As a special education teacher I am trained to assess and develop individual programs for learners based on their particular strengths and needs. I have worked with students in grade 6-12 teaching biology, chemistry, and community based instruction. I have worked with students with a variety of disabilities, including autism, ADHD, mental retardation, conduct disorder and child abuse syndromes.
EFFECTIVE EDUCATION SHOULD BE INDIVIDUALLY PLANNED FOR THE CHILD. My teaching and tutoring experience has deepened my belief that all students have individual learning styles. I work with children to assess how they learn best and help them to be successful based on skills they bring to the work. My students will understand concepts and make real world connections as well as getting the right answer. And they will enjoy working within their comfort zone to achieve their goals.
