Greetings! I'm currently a PhD student in Classics (Latin and Greek literature) at the University of California, Los Angeles. I tutor primarily in Latin and Greek, as well as ancient history more generally, but I'm also qualified to tutor English literature, European history, reading comprehension, and writing - at all levels. Additionally, I can tutor preparations for a number of standardized tests (high school entrance, college entrance, GRE).
My tutoring style combines positive reinforcement with honest assessment. By opening an academic dialogue between myself and the student, I aim to create a learning environment where trial, error, and success can occur readily, all with the intention of building confidence through familiarity with material. Generally, I try to tap a student's already assigned homework as the primary tutoring tool, but I also feel that supplementary materials can have great worth. At the end of the day, results are key. Hence, I'm always re-evaluating my method to achieve the maximum level of success.
My undergraduate degree is from the University of Puget Sound, a small liberal arts college in Tacoma, Washington. I graduated summa cum laude, with departmental honors, and received the David A. Lupher Prize in Philology, awarded for prowess in Greek and Latin translation. At a small college I learned the value of teaching - especially, of fostering a close dynamic between teacher and student.
