Piano, writing and studying skills, college applications, and Chinese

Hello,

My name is Xixi ("Shi-Shi"). I am a private teacher in coaching students to have better studying habits and writing skills, prepare for college applications and essays, and learn piano and Chinese. To give you a little background of my education, I graduated from one of the top universities in the country - Northwestern University - with a 3.8 GPA, cum laude, with a major in Asian studies (Japanese and Chinese) and a minor in business. Prior to college, I was also in an intensive program known as the International Baccalaureate program, which is one step above the regular Advanced Placement program. I graduated with a 3.99 GPA, being the salutatorian of my class of over 1,000 seniors. Studying and figuring out ways to manage different subjects come naturally to me.

If you are looking for someone to help you and or your child in writing better papers and preparing college applications, I can definitely help you. I can coach you or your child in gaining the confidence to write more efficiently, fluidly, and easily. I can also help edit their essays and dramatically improve their writing.

I tutor in any subject K-6, as I used to be a volunteer for a non-profit called Chicago HOPES and worked with children in low income communities. I can assist you or your child in creating better studying habits and practice. I am able to break down complex concepts into simple terms for students in Math, English, and other subjects.

I also tutor students in learning Chinese and gaining skills speaking, writing, and listening. I majored in Asian studies with a concentration in both Chinese and Japanese. I am also a native Chinese speaker, born in Shanghai.

In addition, I have been a piano teacher for over 5 years, with over 20 years of piano training. I am experienced in teaching both children (age 5-teenagers) and adults. I have trained with well-known professors, such as Gloria Cook in Florida and Vladimir Leyetchkiss in Chicago. Again, I can provide you with preferences upon request.

I charge $35-75/hour depending on the specific request and location for private tutoring, editing essays, and preparing for college applications (most of this can be done via Skype or at my studio), and $67-$77/hour for piano lessons depending on location (in-home or at my studio). You get what you pay for. I am a dedicated teacher and will make sure that your child gets what he or she needs.

I have trained in classical piano for over 20 years. I have also taught for over 5 years. I can take a beginner student all the way to advanced depending on how much they want to learn.

Study Skills

I am a college graduate from Northwestern University, with a 3.8 GPA, cum laude. Prior to college, I was also in the intensive International Baccalaureate program, graduating in the top 1% of my class with a 3.99 GPA. Studying has always come easily to me because I know how to approach and understand different subjects. I can demonstrate to other students how to study and learn materials in English, math, or other subjects.

Chinese

I am a native Chinese, born in Shanghai and lived in Hong Kong. I am fluent in both Mandarin and Cantonese. I graduated from Northwestern University with a major in Asian Studies with a concentration in Chinese and Japanese. I have tutored and assisted other students in improving their Chinese skills in speaking, writing, and listening. I can help anyone who is interested in becoming fluent in this language.

Ballroom Dancing

I teach a variety of dances, including Rumba, Salsa, Cha-Cha, Foxtrot, Waltz, Tango, Swing, and more. I was trained in ballet during her youth under the Royal Academy of Dance program in Hong Kong. I have been teaching Salsa and Latin dancing for the past three years, helping couples and individuals learn how to move to the Latin rhythm. I have taught both private lessons as well as group classes. Prior to teaching, I competed in dancing at the collegiate level at Northwestern University and was also a choreographer for the University student dance show. I have experience in creating beautiful dances for couples who are interested in doing salsa dancing.
