I believe the most important gifts I can give my students are both motivation to dream and the building blocks toward an enlightened life. Music for me is a vital part of this process of personal growth, self-awareness, enhancement of character, and love of the creative process.

In my classroom, as well as in one-on-one coaching/mentoring sessions, I strive for a student-focused approach, guided by mutual respect, constant support and encouragement, establishment of developmental goals, and awareness of the value of discipline as intrinsic to the refinement of artistic abilities as well as the development of individual maturity.

I lead by example, and embody within myself a reverence for great music, both as a medium for self-expression, and a vehicle through which the souls of others can be touched and inspired.

Music Theory

I studied in-depth music theory during undergraduate work (BA) and at UCLA (MA/PhD).

Composition (Music)

I studied film composition with Jerry Goldsmith, Paul Chihara, and Ian Krause (UCLA). I have been a composer, arranger, orchestrator, pianist, conductor, and music supervisor (underscoring)for over 25 years for concert music, theatre, television, film, and various performing artists and musical productions (all styles). Ear Training

I taught undergraduate ear training (melodic, harmonic, rhythmic) while at UCLA, and continue to do so privately.

General Music

I have a BA, MA and PhD (abd) in music performance, theory, and composition. I have taught general music fundamentals for over 25 years, both in classroom settings and privately.

Music History

During my undergraduate (BA) and graduate study (MA/PhD) in music performance, theory, and composition, Music History was a specific area of study. I wrote many papers in this subject, and received a 4.0 in my coursework.

Piano

I am a Professional Pianist/Vocalist/Composer (25 years), and have done performances throughout the US, in all styles. I also have a BA/MA/PhD.

Sight Singing

I taught undergraduate sight singing (both fixed and movable "do") while at UCLA, and continue to do so privately.

Voice (Music)

I have taught voice both at UCLA (undergraduate classes) and privately in my studio for over 25 years. I have also performed as a vocalist during that time throughout the US.

Songwriting

I have been a professional songwriter (BMI) for over 25 years - all styles. I am a member of the National Academy of Songwriters-advanced workshop and the BMI-Lehman Engle Musical Theatre Workshop.
