I am a native English and Spanish speaker who has lived in El Salvador and the US. I have extensive training and experience as an interpreter and translator in the psychology and medical fields, primarily working for an agency focused on meeting children's mental health needs. I enjoy working with children and their families, and look forward to assisting people of all ages with their Spanish language needs.
In working with students I believe it is important to balance my guidance and mentorship with developing their autonomy and independence. I like to encourage the tutee to have patience when they face difficulties or frustrations with the process. I then redirect them to practice the material as much as possible, with my assistance if/when necessary. I am always focused on covering all of the necessary material, so that the student isn't faced with new topics on their own. It is always essential to listen to their needs in order to assist them in the best way possible. Overall, I enjoy being a resource for students both in terms of linguistic knowledge and cultural competency.
