Hello!
I have at least 3 years of tutoring experience. I first started tutoring during college with a company called Upward Bound. I tutored a high school student after school twice a week. One of their goals was to prepare them to apply to college. I have also spent time in Egypt doing charity work. This included teaching English to adults and providing one-on-one tutoring for elementary and high school students. I have also tutored here in Los Angeles at my local church for 2 years. I was able to set up the tutoring program with a partner and do the administrative work behind it too. We worked on matching students and setting up rules for students and tutors. It was nice to be able to provide a service free of charge to our church members. Many of the families have low-incomes and were so happy to receive help for their children. Many families were new immigrants from Egypt and really needed patient tutors to help them improve their English skills.
I can tutor high school students in English, writing, history, and psychology. My expertise is English for all ages, but I can also tutor any elementary school subjects. I prefer to only help with Math up until grade 3 as it is not my strongest subject. I like to use fun in teaching and enjoy building relationships with children. I like to be a positive role model and not only a teacher. I enjoy connecting with children. It is also very important to find out what the student's strengths are and encourage them in those strengths. Of course, a tutor should also notice what the student's weaknesses are. I enjoy creating a relationship that is built on trust. When the student sees that a tutor cares about him or her, the student can trust the tutor and begin to see him or her as an older sibling or mentor. This is important for young people. They need to see that there are people who care about whether they succeed or fail.
Thank You.
