Hello, potential students.
The world is connected. I'm sure you know that, as you can get online and talk to faraway friends or read about what's happening in India or Germany any time you like. But even more than in your personal experience, the world is connected in bigger ways. Like the connections between the academic subjects you're learning in school and your future. Not just your future job, but your future life as an athlete, employee, employer, friend, parent, student - in whatever role your future will bring you. My goal in our tutoring sessions will be to help you understand and engage with the material you're learning now by helping you critically connect that material to your life in the larger world.
My academic background was in English, journalism and creative writing in high school. As a college undergraduate, I focused on film and television first, but ended up with a major in Theology. I used my love for screenwriting and theology to earn myself a Master's degree from the University of Edinburgh by writing a screenplay based on a book by Soren Kierkegaard. Since my academic days I have written and directed several short films, coached writers in Bangladesh, studied Asian history in Cambodia and South Korea, tutored immigrants in the English language, reviewed films with spiritual messages and written travel advice columns for online newspapers, among other things. The subjects I find myself writing about now, like psychology, anthropology, history and philosophy are all subjects I started to take an interest in during high school and college. If there is one thing this diversity of experience teaches me it is that everything is connected.
I hope learning about the connections of your material to your world will encourage you as we work together to hone your skills and improve your scores.
Hope to meet you soon!
