Hi there! My name is Kimberly and I am passionate about teaching and learning, but most of all, I am passionate about you! I have been teaching in the classroom for the past 11 years. I have worked with incredible students of all ages and backgrounds.
I received my first degree in Humanities from UC Irvine. There, with the help of a patient and caring advisor, I designed my own program of study and conducted a special in-depth research project.
In between undergraduate and graduate school I spent a number of years working in the business world. I lived in both San Francisco and Boston, and spent much time traveling overseas, learning about many different cultures. During that time I was an ESL instructor and I helped many students edit their dissertations.
I love working one-to-one with students! I especially love helping students with English, writing and grammar. These are my favorite subjects! I also excel in building study/organizational skills as well as independent and deeper-level thinking skills.
When I decided to go for my Master's Degree in Education, Harvard University was my first choice. It was not until after I graduated, however, that I truly fell in love with teaching. I remember clearly my first substitute teaching job in a public school in Los Angeles. I knew from the first day that I had found my calling! Nothing thrills me more that to see a student's face light up when something suddenly clicks!
What I really love is helping students develop a love of learning, even when certain things don't seem to come very easily. In my mind, every student is unique and learns in his/her own particular way. Unfortunately, most schools are not set up to be able to address or meet the many diverse (often creative) ways in which we process and learn. My gift is being able to design and guide instruction that best suits your individual needs and goals, and I want you to feel relaxed, safe and confident as a learner. I can't wait to begin working with YOU!
