I am 24 years old and am a graduate in mechanical engineering from UCLA. I have held multiple teaching positions. These include one-on-one and group tutoring (up to five students at a time) for my high school, my college, and multiple tutoring companies in all subjects ranging from basic algebra and geometry to statistics and calculus including physics and chemistry as well. I have also tutored SAT along with many other subject tests.
I have been tutoring for eight years and have helped over a hundred students get better grades. In fact, the lowest grade any of my regular private students has received was a B+. I have helped a lot of students on their math section of the SATs. Generally speaking, my students average an increase of around 100-150 points on their math section alone. Imagine going from 550, a slightly higher than average score, to about a 700, an amazing score. I have even had one girl increase by 290 points on her math section (370 to 660). A lot of my success with students is because I sincerely enjoy helping my students learn. I take a personal interest in all of my students to make sure they understand the material and get the grades they are hoping to achieve.
I have found that the best way to tutor students is to be as open with them as possible. I try to befriend each of my students because I find that when you are friends it is easier to talk openly and figure out where the student is having issues. I have learned to be very patient with students and I never get frustrated with them even if they have trouble understanding the material and are getting frustrated themselves. I think it is this ability mixed with the fact that I know the material better than almost anyone and can therefore explain it in different ways that makes me excel as a tutor. By the end of the semester, most of my private students have told me they wished that I taught the class instead of the professor, because I make everything easy to understand. Whenever I hear this it is a very proud moment for me because it shows that I have made a difference in the understanding that the student has.
Also, as a hobby I am a triathlon coach (swim, bike, run). I used to compete for UCLA when I went to school there. I still train a lot and will hopefully be turning pro in the next couple of years.
