Hi!
I'm Emily. I live in Los Angeles and I recently graduated from Pasadena College of Design with an Masters in fine art (MFA). I work as a freelance writer, graphic designer and tutor in addition to showing my artwork. I grew up in New York, where I attended a private quaker high school in Manhattan (Friends Seminary). I then graduated with honors from Bard College, with degrees in Art and Art History.
Since my senior year of high school all through my graduate degree, I have been tutoring students in writing, grammar, editing, essays, as well as giving private art and design lessons. I know a variety of programs, design and otherwise and can teach adults and children alike to create on the computer and in the real world.
Photoshop, Illustrator, Final Cut Pro, InDesign, Word, Excel etc.
I am also an expert at Black and White darkroom techniques and can provide both digital and manual--35mm, and medium format--photography lessons to both adults and children.
My philosophy is that skills that are learned are all in service of understanding the world as a whole. The learning process will go so much smoother when things are put into context, when something learned is seen not just as a cog, but how it fits into the machine.
I am easy going, patient, and friendly. We will design a plan of tutoring to improve your abilities that is tailored especially to your particular needs. The focus will come through knowing how you learn, not through rote study techniques.
If you have any questions, please send me an email. I look forward to talking with you.
